The new theory, backed up by seismic data suggest that water is stored in the transition zone of Earth’s mantle. It is thought to host minerals called ringwoodite and wadsleyite that can store water like a sponge. If water does exists in huge volumes beneath Earths crust, it is bound to have a big impact on the mechanics of volcanoes and the movement of tectonic plates. This supports one particular biblical epic.
