The new year and the first opportunity to visit Throstle Nest as local rivals Harrogate Railway travelled the short distance to the village of Farsley. The weather suggested that todays match would be hard work and necessitate flippers and snorkels as the howling rain and gales swept majestically across the ground. Both teams struggled early doors to keep control of the ball and it was the Villagers who prodded the most, but lacked any sort of cool finishing, despite creating sufficient chances. As the old cliche goes, youve got to take your chances and Railways first decent move ended up with an embarrassed Farsley defence staring at each other as the tap in was, erm, tapped in. Three minutes later is was 2-0 as the referee played an advantage on the half way line and Railway broke free to put Farsley on the road to a potential arse-kicking, the the visitors wracking up three other chances (two against the bar, one against the post) as home fans looked towards half time and the safety of the clubhouse.
