The new year rings in with three planets in exalted signs (Mars, Moon and Jupiter.) While this is a strong start, the alignments of these first few days of 2015 offer both challenge and support to begin our year. Mercury enters Capricorn on January 1 for a very long transit, including a retrograde cycle from January 21 – February 11. This puts Mercury under the heavy influence of Saturn until the first week of March, which could significantly slow or hamper the usually quick Mercury. Our communications and exchanges may come under some review and limitation, which could ultimately be an advantage in the end although frustrating in the moment. The Moon is full in the sign of Gemini on January 4, the same day that Mars moves into the sign of Aquarius. This first week of January should give us some positive momentum (but not too fast!) As the Moon wanes toward new on January 20, it will cover some rough terrain due to aspects and occupation by planets that can challenge the vulnerable nature of the Moon, which rules the mind and emotions. Venus joins Mars in Aquarius on January 22, creating a situation where we may be exploring the wild and rocky terrain that passionate attraction can discover. When to push our individual expression and when to completely let go as we attempt to harmonize, engage and interact? The last third of January, after Mercury assumes retrograde status, we may want to concentrate on projects and information that have already been started or gathered. It could be a good span of time for deep analysis and deliberate communication. With the Mercury retrograde cycle occuring in an earth sign, the strong overflow of Mercury energy may cause mishaps with communication or transportation equipment such as phone, computer, auto, bicycle or Internet.
