The newspaper article is from the Stockton Daily Independent, July 27, 1905. The postcard is from the mid 1900’s and one of a series; probably the first pure postcard series of Stockton as the view portion of the card is only half the total area, the remaining area left for a message. There are at least 14 city views from the publisher, W.J. Lester. At this time the telephone company was located at the southeast corner of San Joaquin and Channel, across the street from the county jail. The location is now a parking lot.
