The next two weeks in Kent football bring us what will undoubtedly be the most exciting games of the season. Next Thursday, Federal Way comes to French Field to meet Kentwood. In two weeks, Kentwood faces Kent-Meridian. Last season, Kentwood won by a field goal. But this Kent-Meridian team is a new beast from last years. Off to a 4-1 start, K-M won the Taylor Trophy match against Auburn, bringing the trophy home for the first time since the 1990s. A win against Kentwood would allow them to also bring home the Claude French trophy, which Im guessing theyve not brought home in just about as many years. But before Kentwood faces Kent-Meridian, they will have to host Federal Way. Some might call this a battle of the leagues best offense (Federal Way) with the best defense in the state (Kentwood.) Last night, Federal Way put up a staggering 70 points against Decatur. Last night, Kentwood played Tahoma, soundly defeating them 28-0. But when Federal Way played Tahoma, they put up more than twice as many points, beating the Bears 58-17. Kentwood is undefeated, and Federal Way comes in with two losses. These losses, however, were against true powerhouse teams, Camas and Union, who are ranked far above and beyond any team Kentwood has played this year. Tahoma comes into this formula again. Next Saturday, Kent-Meridian faces Tahoma. And that game should give us a good indication of what to expect when Kentwood and Kent-Meridian face off in two weeks. With all due respect to the professional teams that play down at ShoWare, it remains true that the best seats in town are to be found at French Field.
