The nightmare of any island chain dependant on desalination (reverse osmosis) for its drinking water - this is being lived out in the Maldives at the moment, where 100,000 residents in the capital city Male are without drinking water and water is being air-lifted from India - makes you think that we should never get groundwater out of the equation (by over-extracting and polluting it) since a mixture of water sources guarantees a steady supply (as in the energy sector) - thanks to Joe Grech for pointing this out: bbc/news/world-asia-30344155
