The number of Filipinos in 2014 is projected to hit 100 million in just a few days. When I was born in 1950, there were only 21,131,264 Filipinos. When I was a kid, the daily wage was P4.00, the hundred peso bill was a rare sight, the exchange rate was 2 pesos to the dollar, coins were made of silver and my mother would be profusely apologetic for having to serve Tomé Spanish sardines in olive oil for breakfast or made-in-Argentina Target corned beef for dinner. (Sigh!)
