The number of applicants increased because it was announced that one must apply for the STS to be eligible for enrollment. Wag na nating lokohin ang mga tao at estudyante. Twisting facts and plugging holes which the system has made in the first place wont do anyone good. Increase in stipend? E in forms of coupons na nga yung stipend eh. Coupons that can be used for food, dorm rent, etc. E paano na lang sa UPM? Mismong sariling cafeteria o dormitory, wala tayo! The mere fact that you are all so proud of being able to provide discounts to the students is insult to injury. Tinaasan niyo na nga yung base tuition na ngayon ay 1500 per unit na, cinommodify niyo pa by acting as if these had price tags na may 33% or 60% off. Discounts wouldnt be needed in the first place kung talagang affordable ang tuition. Making the application easy and speeding up the bracketing process do not equate to an improved, effective, and efficient system. Ang dami ngang misbracketed eh! (Pero ideally, there shouldnt even be brackets anymore in the first place) The STS is no better than its predecessor, STFAP. They are both methods of smoke-screening tuition fee increases and generating income from the students. Hindi negosyo ang edukasyon, wag niyo gawing pagkakakitaang kabuhayan ang mga estudyante. Education is a right for all. Mayaman man o mahirap, dapat natatamasa ito. The University of the Philippines is a state university - the national university, even! Ideally, by definition, a state university must be fully subsidized by the government. Anyare na? We remain true to our call of education for all. Stop the implementation of income-generating tuition schemes! Rollback the tuition, fight for greater state subsidy! #JunkSTS
