The number of saves a pitcher has might be the most irrelevant - TopicsExpress

The number of saves a pitcher has might be the most irrelevant stat in baseball. A great closer could pitch for a team that scores a lot of runs and plays great defense and thus has few close games. A pitcher could lead the league in saves and be bad if he has a lot of blow saves. The number of blown saves is the more important stat. A closer with more than one or two a season is not an elite closer. If someone has 5 or more for the season, he is a poor and undependable closer and needs to be replaced. Rosenthall already has four. Im disappointed in him, this year.
