The observation tower at Antietam was constructed between August and December of 1896. A pyramidal roof was planned but not originally included in the construction Cost of construction to the point seen in the photo ? $2,740 The roof would be added by April of 1909. The blue glazed tile originally in the plan would be replaced by the red clay tile familiar today.
