The occupation of Hong Kong continues. It has spread and seems to - TopicsExpress

The occupation of Hong Kong continues. It has spread and seems to be massively inconveniencing commuters and commerce across the city. It took me 45 minutes this morning to catch a taxi to work as the trams, trains and many buses were inoperational. All the roads around our hotel are now barricaded and there is no vehicle access. I would be irritated by this except for the fact that I support those protesting and their reason for doing it. It has been amazing watching these people; many of them high school and uni students. I walked by them today in Causeway bay. They are reserved, courteous and are recycling their water bottles and cleaning up after themselves. Quite the contrast when juxtaposed against protests I have seen in the USA. Hong Kong is such a busy metropolis, always moving but over my six years of coming here I have never seen a city where I feel so safe. The people here as a whole are extremely peaceful and non violent. I hope they are able to secure a future for themselves free of tyrannical rule and where they can become truly free. Having their ability to choose their own candidates would be the first step on that long long road.
