The older I get and the more I delve into the riches of Gods Word, - TopicsExpress

The older I get and the more I delve into the riches of Gods Word, the more I find myself cherishing it, standing in awe of it, and delighting in it like one who finds great spoil(Ps 199:162). Throughout Ps 119, King David seems hardly able to find adequate word to describe what he feels about the Word of God: Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors... Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all day long... How sweet are your words to my taste...sweeter than honey to my mouth... I love Your commands above gold..above fine gold.. Your Word is pure.. My heart stands in awe of Your Word. vs. 24, 97, 103, 127, 140, 161 I hold one single sentence out of Gods Word to be of more certainty and of more power than all the discoveries of all the learned men of all the ages(C.H Spurgeon) Even more important than what men think of the Word of God is what God says about His own Word. According to the Bible, the Word of the Lord is true(Ps 33:4; 119:60) it is pure; it is righteous and fully trustworthy(Ps 119:138) it is eternal and stands in the heavens(Ps 119:89); it is divinely inspired(2 Tim 3:16, 2 Pet 1:21); it is profitable for our lives and walk(2Tim 3:16); it is perfect(Ps 19:7); it is of greater value than any amount of gold or silver(Ps 119:72). it is sweet! Is the Bible alive to you; does it have feet that run after you; does it have hands that lay hold of you?(Luther) When you pick up the Word, do you realize what it is you are holding in your hands? Do you stop to think this is the Word of the Lord? When the Bible speaks, God speaks! The Scripture says that God has exalted His Word above even His own name(Ps 138:2). If God esteems His Word that highly, what should our attitude be towards the Word? In Ps 119, he speaks of loving the Word, reverencing it, delighting in it, longing for it, trusting it, and fearing it. God through Isaiah says,This is the one I esteem; he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.(Is 66:2) What does it mean to tremble here? To have an attitude of reverential awe and fear. It has the power to keep us from sin(Ps119:9,11); to strengthen us when we are grieving(vs 28); to comfort us when we are suffering(vs 50,52); to grant us freedom(vs45) to give us understanding and light for our path(v104) and to give us peace and keep us from stumbling!(v165) The Word of God will light your way; it will help you make the right choice; it will heal your wounds and settle your heart, it will warn you of danger; it will protect you and cleanse you from sin; it will lead you; it will make you wise. It is bread. It is water. It is a counsellor. It is life. It is satisfying. It is sufficient. It is supreme. It is supernatural. With hearts tuned and spiritual ears and eyes attentive to Him, open the pages of the Word, there expecting to encounter its Author and to be transformed in His presence among believers this morning!
