Dickinsons interests include literature, writing, fencing (at which he has competed internationally, placing 7th in Great Britain, and has founded a fencing equipment company under the brand name Duellist), railway technology and aviation. Due to the wide variety of Dickinsons pursuits, Intelligent Life named him as a living example of a polymath in 2009. Dickinson learned to fly recreationally in Florida in the 1990s and now holds an airline transport pilots licence.
