The only fault, if you could call it that, of Miss Philippines is - TopicsExpress

The only fault, if you could call it that, of Miss Philippines is speaking honestly about what she believes in, in the context of the reality in the Philippines today. In first world countries, one may survive without a college degree, and still get a good paying job to feed the family, be able to buy a decent car and even go on a luxurious vacation. In the Philippines, even with a diploma in hand, one must have to be the best of the best to get that job, and education being given prime value in that equation. This is why I understand her answer and how it speaks to the hearts of millions of Filipinos. Some other countries may look for solutions like higher mobility of markets, or whatever economic strategy i will not pretend to understand. But in the Philippines, with about 4 siblings or even more, a few extended relatives and even parents, the usual working class Filipino looks for job opportunities not for themselves but for their families. And to get these jobs, the reality is that we need education to fit those jobs in a highly competitive work force. We educate ourselves to get better job opportunities, to help support our struggling families, to put food on the table sans the luxury trips or cars. We educate ourselves to work, we work all in the end, for our loved ones. That is the essence of the Filipino spirit, family oriented, loving and strong. Without a doubt, Ariella Arida had the best answer of them all! Congratulations Miss Philippines!
