The other day I talked about checking your UD palettes (and other high end products) for lot numbers to see if the items are authentic or not. I mentioned in the post that you should do this even if you buy the products from ULTA Beauty or Sephora. I want to remind you folks that with the holiday season quickly that any high ticket item you buy to DOUBLE CHECK your receipt and the item BEFORE you leave the store. My eldest works as a waitress and as such had been saving her money to buy a new touch screen laptop. On Sunday night she went to a local Best Buy bought a HP - TouchSmart 15.6 Touch-Screen Laptop - AMD A8-Series - 4GB Memory - 500GB Hard Drive - Black Licorice for $399.99. She also bought a sleeve for it for $34.99. When she got home at 9 PM she ran up the stairs to show me her purchase. As she took it out of the bag she quickly realized that the employee correctly scanned the laptop she was going to buy but because she was talking with her youngest sister she didnt realize that the employee switched out the laptop for a Toshiba - Satellite 15.6 Laptop - Intel Celeron - 4GB Memory - 500GB Hard Drive - Jet Black (retailing for $199.99 right now). Needless to say she was very distraught over this and since it was past 9 PM she couldnt do anything that night. Well, momma stepped in of course and found the store managers email and I had her email him with the details from her receipt including the serial number printed on the receipt, the employees number and his name (Kat remembered his name) and the time it was purchased. He contacted her at midnight and said theyll look into it. By 11:30 AM Monday (yesterday) he verified the she wasnt trying to scam the store and my husband was able to take the incorrect laptop back for the right one. Now heres the kicker - what happened to the laptop she purchased? Remember, Best Buy and similar stores will print on the receipt the serial number of the item purchased to prevent people from stealing merchandise from one store and going to another for a refund or store credit. Either her laptop was switched and someone else walked out with her purchase or the employee stole the merchandise (with help from a friend) or the laptop went back into stock however since they could not give her the laptop she paid for and had to ring her up the new one my guess is either someone else walked out with a $400 laptop for $200 OR the employee stole the laptop with the help of a friend (friend paid for a $200 laptop but got a $400 one instead). While the manager apologized via email to her, the hubby said when he went in he was made to feel that it was her fault for not catching it before walking out the store. If it werent for the fact I told her to have them pull the security feed (and that there was security feed) shed have to fight with her bank for a refund since she didnt get the item she paid for. So when buying high ticket purchases be it from an electronic store or cosmetic store or even a toy store DOUBLE CHECK your purchases to your receipt BEFORE you leave the store or area.
