The other day I took my daughter Lilly to a show at the Woodstock square. We walked right through the middle of the square where some Hispanic teenagers were hanging out. I have to admit I felt a little intimidated because there were so many older kids and then just Lilly and I. The boys started talking to me in Spanish. I REALLY took them by surprised and kinda even surprised myself as I responded immediately in Spanish...as I understood every word they said. Then they went on telling me things in Spanish. They were taken back a bit more as I fired back at them with my verbal Spanish responses as I looked at them directly in the eye and grabbed Lillys hand and pushed through. The joke was on them. It was actually quite funny. I dont think they expected a little blonde mom with her daughter to respond as I did! Thanks to my Meadowdale students for teaching me street-smart Spanish and teaching me the Spanish language in general! :)
