The other day we were listening to SiriusXM Octane, and Kayla Riley started talking about OTHERWISE and our song Soldiers. Much to my surprise, she spun the demo version of the song that we recorded entirely in my garage 3 1/2 years ago - when we were just some guys from Vegas, recording a song into a personal computer, without any clear goal of what should happen next with the band. Personally, I was touched that a song I produced, engineered, mixed and mastered entirely on my own could stand the test of time like this on satellite radio. The version she spun is straight from the burned CD-R we gave Jose Mangin at the 48 Hour Festival in 2011!!! Craziness. I can still vividly remember Adrian singing those lead vocals - crammed tightly between my drum kit and the wall. And Ill never forget how we recorded the gang vocals - with Adrian, Ryan, their cousin Ivan Patrick and myself - all screaming at the top of our lungs, across the room, into a microphone that should never have been used to record gang vocals (but hey, they were supposed to be for the demo only, so who cares, right?!?). Its been quite a journey over the last 3 1/2 years with OTHERWISE, and hearing that demo again just reminded me of how far weve come in those years.
