The outbreak of Ebola in West Africa is very troubling and we must ensure that our homeland is protected from this epidemic. I am confident that our healthcare and security systems have stepped up protection to the necessary levels. I am encouraged by President Obama’ s announcement of a new Ebola screening plan for five major U.S. airports. I want to make a few points clear to anyone concerned about Ebola: • Ebola is not spread through the air or by water, or in general, food • Ebola is spread through direct contact with blood, secretions or other bodily fluids or exposure to contaminated objects, such as needles • Ebola is not contagious until symptoms appear.
