The ownership of the Mattru-Gambia oil palm plantation has been in - TopicsExpress

The ownership of the Mattru-Gambia oil palm plantation has been in turmoil when a group of land owners had wanted a private investor to take over as against the government or public investment. This all happened when government has received the sum of $16.5 million to implement some infrastructural projects including the construction of a mill, 3 classroom blocks, rehabilitation of a 14km road, employment of 100 youth on the farm, Health centre, solar panel installation among several others in the two chiefdoms. This misunderstanding has left behind lots of physical fight between the pro-private investor members and that of pro-government members from within the same chiefdoms. However, a high power government delegation from State House led by the chief of staff, Dr Richard Conteh slammed Mattru over the weekend to lay the matter to rest. He told the people that they must allow goverment to invest this sum of money before the Islamic Development Bank takes it back. This statement has left behind more chaos in the area as the pro-private investor members are allegedly reported to have attacked the temporary farm guards the ministry of Agriculture has put in place noting that they will not accept goverments intervention on the farm. All this is manifesting itself based on the unfriendly ties between the paramount chief of Jong, PC AB Sheriff and former Deputy Minister, Sylvester B Goba who seems to be accompanying the goverment team. It is expected that all these will be put to rest today after the a state house meeting with both people and the president at 6pm.
