The paper clip claim follows revelations that Chancellor George Osborne is raking in £10,000 a month letting out his family home while living rent free in his flat above Downing Street. He earns £134,000, putting him close to the top income tax band which he has a slashed from 50p to 45p in the pound. Mr Osborne has claimed he did not earn enough to benefit from the cut. But a spokesman refused to say last night if the wallpaper heir now paid the top rate, given that he is coining it in from renting his West London home.
