The party allied with NDA for a ministerial berth at Centre Reaction GK NEWS NETWORK Handwara, Nov 18: Lashing out at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for alleging a hidden contact between Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and BJP prime minister candidate Narendra Modi, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti Monday said they have nothing to hide as people know it well who formed an alliance with BJP at Centre to seek power in the past. Mehbooba was addressing a gathering at Wadipora village of North Kashmirs Handwara town. Mehbooba said some people were leveling allegations against PDP which depicted how much frustrated they are with the popularity of the party. Those who say that PDP has hidden contacts with BJP should not forget the past. In past it were these people who for the sake of a ministerial berth allied with NDA at Centre. For these people BJP was sacred then and now it has become unholy for them, Mehbooba said, adding that people know it well who are and were hand in glove with BJP. To solve the unemployment problems in the Abdullah family, NC, it is a known fact, has aligned with everybody in Delhi during the past, and it is no big deal for them to work with Modi. In 1996, Farooq Abdullah took 60 Assembly members and four Parliament members and put them into the lap of BJP for just getting his son a junior ministers job. During that period, the Abdullahs handed over seven feasible power projects to the NHPC, without getting anything substantial for the state. Blanket ban on government jobs was enforced and opening of new schools were also banned, she said. She said since Omar Abdullah had nothing to show as his performance report to the people at the end of his tenure, he is resorting to lies and concocted stories to divert attention of people from the reality. She said that PDP has no contact and relationship with BJP and it is not power hungry. Urging people to make it a point that they elect politicians based on their performance only, she said, in the given circumstances, it is necessary to do to pave way for the honorable resolution of political problems. She said a decisive mandate will provide legitimacy to the partys resolution efforts. Mehbooba said PDP would usher in a new era of peace, prosperity and development in the state and pick up the threads again from where it left when it had catalyzed the process of reconciliation within the state and between India and Pakistan. Failure of the present government has squeezed space of dignity for all sections of society and all the positive initiatives taken by the previous government have been reversed. The atmosphere of hope that was generated in the state has disappeared. An atmosphere conducive to the resolution had been made in 2003 with the memorable Atal Bihari Vajpayee visit. His (Vajpayees) statement was historical as no less than PM of India declared among thousands of people that Kashmir issue is to be resolved within the ambit of humanity, she said. Mehbooba said that people were relieved from their hardships and miseries during PDP regime. We abolished draconian laws like POTA and curbed Special Operation Group. PDP healed the wounds of common Kashmiris and gave them respect. If people feel that PDP did good to them then I hope they would vote and support our party, she said. Mehbooba said Omar Abdullahs misrule stands out for atrocities, corruption and a complete collapse of administration. His rule began with the infamous Shopian incident in which two young women lost their life in tragic circumstances and Omar Abdullah not only hushed it up but persecuted those who had agitated for justice. Year 2010 was a nightmarish experience for the people of Jammu & Kashmir when one after the other 120 youngsters and children were killed without a single incident being investigated. Instead, about 10 thousand FIRs were filed against those young people who had demanded justice. Omar Abdullah cant even absolve himself of the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru early this year. Justice has never been subverted in any decent society as has been done in J&K under the NC government, Mehbooba said. The PDP president said by way of performance, Omar Abdullah has only few things to his credit which include the introduction of chili grenades and pellet guns to be used against the Kashmir youth, who dare to raise their voice against injustice and misrule. His (Omars) tenure also stands out for imposing curfew on maximum days and imprisoning political opponents in their homes. Omar Abdullah government also created record of sorts by reemploying more than 300 officers and others with heavy salaries and perks, while on the other hand denying wages to daily wagers, casual and seasonal workers. On this occasion, party General Secretary Muhammad Dilawar Mir, chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar, senior leader Ghulam Mohiudin Sofi, Muhammad Shafi Dar, Ghulam Muhammad and others were also present and spoke to the gathering.
