The past year I have been on a historical and religious renascence - TopicsExpress

The past year I have been on a historical and religious renascence of sorts. Im not quite through it, and it might last forever but the insights and knowledge are fascinating. A few takeaways: I have become increasingly skeptical of the self-proclaimed just and people who look to arbitrate with the souls of men and women. Our foremost duty is to love mercy, and cling to it in all things. Humanity is spiritual. Zealot by Reza Aslan opened my eyes to some of the historical realities Jesus was most likely subject to and the context of what was probably his life. I am much more enchanted by the illiterate boy who sparked a movement than I am by turning water into wine. Reality and truth is far more enlightening than mysticism and fable. As history and science become more clear, I cant help but appreciate and relate to the feebleness and humility inherent to participating in life on our planet. Nuance is the honey of knowledge. As we pick apart accounts and data, the pictures that emerge from the details tend to be far more sweet than the brazen facts of the question at hand. Jesus is attributed as having advised to love the truth because it will set you free. I hope he said that, because as a man who has had so much myth propagated under his letterhead it would be great to know that he loved the truth, and sought it actively.
