The path that Germany took to win this World Cup was incredibly similar to Italys victory in 2006. First off, their group consisted of Ghana, USA and another European nation. They won their first and last game, tied the second to finish with 7 points. The first knockout match in the round of 16 was up against a team outside of Europe or South America. The quarterfinal was against a European team and they defeated the hosts of the tournament in the semi-final. To top it all off, they won their fourth cup after 24 years. All identical to Gli Azzurris triumph eight years ago. Stats and trends will never cease to amaze me!
