The phrase Red-Letter Day does not mean a day marked because something wonderful has happened...rather, that something of significance has done so. The practice of circling a day on the calendar in red goes all the way back to antiquity. Today is a red letter day. We can circle this as the day for the first time in decades that the justices of the US Supreme Court have allowed a voter law to stand after a lower federal court had deemed it restrictive and unconstitutional. The SuJus refused to block a Texas voter identification law for the November election –the most restrictive such law in the country. They got it wrong in 2000; they have gotten it wrong in 2014. Circle this day on your calendar...as the day Democracy took a big hit once again in the USA. .npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/10/18/357155017/supreme-court-lets-texas-enforce-voter-id-law-for-nov-election?utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=news
