The pilot of a single seat airplane is dead after crashing near Lewiston Saturday morning. Just after 8:15, Nez Perce County Sheriffs Deputies, Nez Perce Search and Rescue and the Nez Perce County Air Posse all responded to the crash site off Vollmer road near a private landing strip where they found the plane upside down in a wheat field. Witnesses reported hearing the planes engine stall out just prior to the crash. The pilot died at the scene. Investigators believe the engine failing is what caused the crash. So far no information about the victim is being released until his family is notified.
