The pizza-and-movie for this week was Chef, written, directed and starring John Favreau, with Sophia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Oliver Platt, and small, near-cameo appearances by Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. Favreau plays a top chef in LA who gets fired after a meltdown, and ends up traveling to Little Havana in Miami with his cuban ex-wife and son to get back to his creative roots. Its a quirky, funny, touching movie with good performances and excellent dialog. Vergara especially does a good job, softening the stereotypical accent and dingbat personality she exhibits in Modern Family to play a character with depth. Downeys appearance was absolutely bizarre. I was expecting him at any moment to suggest they go out for shawarma. The music is zydaco and latin and really punches up the story. Recommended if you want a fun movie that doesnt blow stuff up. Rated R for language. https://youtube/watch?v=wgFws3AoIUY
