The plan: to find a covered bridge and have a romantic picnic. The prep: had wine, french bread, chevre and salami. The reality: stopped at the covered bridge. So did a family of toothless people scrounging for bottles. Five cents is five cents!said mama. We thought it prudent not to leave our car with several hundred dollars worth of wine, liquor and books. Next stop. The historic wolf creek inn and park. More scary tweakers. Starving, we finally just pull off next to the south Umpqua river. The only spot we can find is a gravely ledge littered with cigarette butts and an ancient discarded diaper. Al drops the ten dollar cheese in the dirt. The french bread is stale. Were attacked by flies. I dump my wine all over al trying to get a selfie of us. I spit dark chocolate over my white tank, laughing. Thank god the wine was good and the company better. #notfacebookperfect #traveloregon
