“The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs. I will put in the desert the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive. I will set junipers in the wasteland, the fir and the cypress together, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it. Isaiah 41:17-20 (NIV) Once again God is reminding His people through Isaiah that He will not forsake them. God in spite of His judgments against His people, that they will never be totally destroyed and that He will provide for the remnant of His people. There will always be a faithful remnant preserved to keep alive the testimony of divine truth and the hope of the coming Messiah. God wants the people to know that His divine hand is still upon them and that He will bless them. The Israelites were known to mumble and complain about their God, but He was letting them know that He is still faith due to the promises He made to their fathers. This same promise that there would be provision for believers applies to followers of Christ. John 4:10: “Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” Jesus is saying that He would bring living water that would forever quench a person’s thirst for God. Jesus was claiming to be the Messiah. Only the Messiah could give this gift which satisfies the soul’s desire. As God would supply the needs of those who sought after Him with provisions, Christ will satisfy the needs of those who seek after Him.
