The portraits of Donbass rebels: “Reddie” - 17 y.o. girl from Slavyansk – a fighter in militia. “First, I just came to barricades in my town and then I stayed there for three days because just I wanted to help those people. I joined the militia because I hate the very idea of fascism. And all the events in Kiev were so unpleasant to me – I mean Maidan – and when I realized that I can do something against it – I gladly began to do it. First. My commander in the militia unit was a fighter with nickname ‘Cammomile” – R.I.P – he was killed in Slavyansk by a sniper. Then we had another commander nicknamed ‘Crick” – soon we moved to the building of former state security and had no commander that time. First I was a cook – we were constantly shifted from one place to another. Then, when we were leaving Slavyansk – I came to the commander nick named “Kosyr” and registered as a rifleman. We stayed in the unit of ‘Kosyr” not very long – about a month and then shifted to the unit of “Motorolla”. Although, I’m young yet, but I thought that I’ll have my own children, grandchildren and they may ask me: “Mother, what have you done so that this didn’t happen”? And what should I answer? That I quitted? No, my conscience should be clean… - “Reddie”, tell, please, you are a smart girl, but the typical way of a smart girl in Ukraine not long ago was: a good house, well-off family, shopping – was such a way ever attractive to you? Would you choose - if proposed – a well-off life? - No, such a way was never attractive to me because it’s just banal, boring and not interesting. I like to do what I want and not to obey the rules. So, such a way – that you told about – is not attractive tome. I like where I’m and what I’m doing – it doesn’t mean that I like a war – I just like to help people and do what I can do for it. - What are your plans for the future? What are awaiting? - I’d like the war to be stopped – I don’t like when people are killed whatever nation they belong to, whatever ideas the believe but the death is not a solution. A reasonable way out should be found.
