This position is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of statewide services, resources and policies designed to enhance the competence of sign language interpreters as well as communication access for deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind individuals in various types of settings. This position is also responsible for the evaluation of interpreters (interpreters on staff and, as requested, in community) and the development and implementation of skill development opportunities (workshops, training series, etc) for interpreters. This position develops, implements and administers the Department of Health and Human Services contract for interpreters all across North Carolina. This position develops or coordinates the development of training, educational and informational materials (such as videos or professional articles and presentations) pertaining to communication access. This position serves as a member of the divisions executive management team and supervises two staff interpreters and the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator position. The National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers is a collaborative of six centers funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Education, Rehabilitation Services Administration, CFDA #H160A and H160B to expand and enhance the effectiveness of the interpreting workforce.
