The power of a gentle touch just reached a new magnitude of meaning. These women that we shared yoga and meditation with yesterday are all living in a hospice with HIV/AIDS. They have been ostracized from their families and from the rest of society. And with so little global and local education (still today) about this disease, fear is rampant and these beautiful women are isolated from even the slightest of touch. Together, we massaged hands and fell into each other on long embrace. I wondered where those hands have been. I wondered when the last time was that she was held. Together we cried as the pain of isolation and the brick walls that were built came crumbling down as we held each other in loving embrace. Two women, both mothers, wanting exactly the same thing: to love and to be loved. #yogaheals
