"[The] powers of human skill [will be] in the hands of the devil . . .. [Ahriman/Satan] may attempt to seduce us in little things, and so to move the Church . . . little by little from her true position . . .It is his policy . . .to divide us, to dislodge us gradually from off our rock of strength. And if there is to be a [bloody] persecution, perhaps it will be then; . . .when . . . all parts of Christendom [are] so full of schism, so close upon heresy. When we have cast ourselves upon the world and depend for protection upon it, and have given up our independence and our strength [to World Government], then he may bust upon us in fury . . . [using Antichrist and] barbarous nations." John Henry Newman (1801-90) English prelate and theologian who, with John Keble and Edward Pusey, founded the Oxford Movement, but later turned to Roman Catholicism and became a cardinal. In 1833, Newman started the Tracts for the Times, from which the Oxford Movement was subsequently named "Tractarian," whose aim was to secure for the Church of England a definite basis of doctrine and discipline, to obviate against disestablishment or of a determination of High Churchmen to quit the establishment. Newman was a devout follower of St Augustine (354-430) the Bishop of Hippo in North Africa and one of the Fathers of the Roman Catholic Church. Newman in his Apologia recorded having been deeply influenced by the Catholic doctrine of the warfare between the City of God and the powers of darkness and believed this battle was about to intensify, as nineteenth-century liberalism was poised to usher in a secular, modern "City of Man." In this, Cardinal Newman was prescient, as the liberal onslaught, part of the Humanist Agenda organized by Evil, has brought his Church and the Protestant Churches to their knees. Newman predicted in Tract Eighty-Five (1838) that "the spread of pantheism . . . the great deceit which awaits the age to come." That is, he forewarned of the rise of the New Age Religion and its integral part in the move to destroy Natural Moral Order on Earth made manifest in Christianity.
