The presidency yesterday faulted an editorial by a national newspaper titled: “Patience Jonathan Excesses Must Be Curbed,” describing it as a hatchet job embarked upon by the detractors of the First Lady. In a press statement signed by the media officer to the president attached to the First Lady, Mr. Ayo Osinlu, indicated that the paper acted under the influence of a ‘hit squad’ hired by “some people ...to launch coordinated, desperate attacks on the First Lady, as a strategy for the survival of the tottering political careers of the sponsors.” According to him, those peddling the recent media attacks on his principal are not exactly surprising, coming from “those who are destined to self-destruct engage their personal battles.” He stated that instead of dissipating energy on the critics, “We will prefer to concentrate our energies on the demanding an agenda for the First Lady for the wellbeing of the women, children and the less fortunate in our land.” “For the First Lady, this is a social, moral and spiritual task that cannot wait,” the statement emphasised. The presidency had penultimate criticised another newspaper for an editorial condemning the use of a podium with the insignia of state by the first lady, observed that her hackers were moral bankrupt. “We can only wish them good luck, because as somebody said, ‘even bad people desire goodluck’. However, it must be stated that the likelihood of sustainable good fortune cannot be separated from humility and decorum. That is the authentic pathway of bona fide sons and daughters of Africa, who combine good breeding with the fear of God,” Osinlu noted. He expressed worry that: “These trench men are finding partnership in a sensitive organ of society such as the media, to cast aspersions on carefully selected members of the society as a design to inspire public sympathy to accumulate for them.” And tell us a better catch in this calculation than the illustrious First Lady of the nation, affectionately well-received by the people for her evident accomplishments in charity, philanthropy and the general promotion of the values of humanity.”
