The press release from Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote calling for a safety review of State Route 7 in Hoosick. The request follows a request earlier this year for a safety review, and both requests follow serious accidents involving tractor trailers. Rensselaer County Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote are renewing a request for a review of safety conditions on State Route 7 in Hoosick following the latest accident on the road Monday. The accident Monday injured several people and resulted in the road being closed for two hours. The road is a major thoroughfare east through the county, running between Troy and the Vermont state border. “This is the latest in a series of serious accidents involving tractor trailers or tanker trucks that lose control on the road. In two of those accidents, the trucks burst into flames. We are trying to avoid a real tragedy and have the state help get this under control,” said Goodermote. The request for a safety review is the second made in 2013 by the two lawmakers, who represent Hoosick in the County Legislature. A request was made in February following a serious tractor trailer accident in which the truck burst into flames, and there have been other requests for safety review in previous years. “Route 7 is a major road, important to the quality of life of our residents and viability of many businesses. Steps need to be taken to ensure the safety of those who live and work on Route 7,” said Brownell. The safety review should include a review of speed, road conditions, signage, visibility and other factors, said Brownell and Goodermote. The request for the safety review will be filed for consideration at the August legislative meeting, but the two lawmakers said they hope a review is started earlier.
