The problem of Iran and Saudi Arabia is not about the Sunni/Shia - TopicsExpress

The problem of Iran and Saudi Arabia is not about the Sunni/Shia divide though the Al Saud regime tries to present it such. The defunt Shah of Iran had close relations with the Al Saud regime and nobody talked of Shia/Sunni then. They had close relations because they serve the same master and that is Western imperialism. After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran became an anti-imperialist nation & that is where relations with Saudi Arabia began to deteriorate. Saudi Arabia now joined America & the Israeli regime to launch a soft war against Iran. Iran never retaliated against Saudi Arabia due to the special position the Holy cities of Makkah & Madina has in the heart of all Muslims. The Al Saud regime uses the sectarian card to further its pro-imperialist agenda in the Islamic world to isolate Iran & sway the Sunni majority. Recently we hear of improvement of relations between the two Muslim nations, we welcome such move. If such moves will thaw the sectarian tensions then it will be beneficial to all.
