The problem we have in black America is that most black ppl know very little of black history, therefore will accept any bs from anyone they aspire to be. I have one word for you guys; Google. The idea that hip hop has done more than every civil right leaders except MLK has to be the biggest bs of the yr so far. Music has been putting ppl together since the beginning of time . Just like sports. Besides religions, I dont believe that there is anything that bring ppl of different background together as well as sport. I think Jay is confusing popularity with importance. Hip hop in its essence was important. Im not saying that hip hop is not important, cause it, but not to the magnitude of the Civil rights movement. The brown vs board of education case has done more for race than hip hop could ever did. Black and White partied together (same room or gym) before desegregation. The majority of music is black music, hip hop is just the newest one and most popular one. but right now, the least important in the case of race relations. Hip hop of today maybe more dangerous to race relations than ever because it is viewed as dangerous, misogynistic Uninspiring, homophobic etc...Hip hop has become the cheap drink of the party, you ll do fine without.
