The problem with making decisions on the government level using scientific findings is that new evidence often changes the finding, that is what science is. Ethanol is better for the environment, GM food is safe, Asbestos causes no adverse effects, global warming is manmade...all of these things were the result of an overwhelming scientific consensus. All later found to not only be wrong, but has killed tens of millions of people. So I tend to be a bit skeptical when it comes to making decisions off of pure science.
