The problem with what happened tonight is that you when you - TopicsExpress

The problem with what happened tonight is that you when you destroy local business and public utilities you arent hurting the police or the government youre harming your communities economic well being and your childrens future. Many of the small businesses destroyed tonight will not be rebuilt. Insurance money may replace the cost of the building, but it cant replace things like the full cost of lost business, rebuilding a long established structure up to new more expensive regulations, decreased customer traffic, and reduced property value. Those businesses not destroyed will suffer for years from the decreased customer flow they will see in the future. This means less jobs, less income for the average resident, less opportunity to succeed in your local community, and a bleaker future for all those who live in the area. Hell, If your from Shamokin look downtown once and try to remember all the shops you used to go to as a kid and see how many are left. A flood a few years ago Shaws decides its not worth the cost to rebuild to current standards and closes, Bad winter a branch falls through the roof Club 122 never reopens, empty lots, closed stores, and dilapidated buildings across the city, large employers like Fleetwood closing down and moving south. The truth is things like this tend to not get better. They tend to get a lot worse as time goes on as negative effects compound each other. Now ask your parents what the town was like 20, 30, 40 years ago and see how the community has shrunk and atrophied. And you see how when a city suffers long term economic depression every aspect of it is negatively affected. The city almost couldnt get gas to heat the schools last winter. What happened to Ferguson tonight will cost the small business owners, their employees, and the city millions in the short run and much more in unforeseeable future losses. Its tough to see one tragedy compounded by another. Hopefully the community can come together to rebuild better, more effectively and quicker than many other communities that suffered through disaster/violence/recession.
