The problems of the Port Authority arent really about - TopicsExpress

The problems of the Port Authority arent really about mismanagement or corruption, said Assemblyman Joe Borelli (R-South Shore), and thats what makes the situation so unique. The Port Authoritys role expanded greatly since its inception, moving from a port operating authority to a quasi-government corporation which does everything from public transit to real estate management. The governments of each state, and even their citizens, were complacent while the agency operated without overall deficit. Unfortunately, the bubble has finally burst. The bloated agency is unsustainable and will have no other alternative but to continue raising tolls and fees unless it is dismantled, Borelli told the Advance. When that happens, the people of New York can determine whether they want taxpayer dollars going to unsuccessful real estate deals, and the people of New Jersey can chose how they fix and fun the PATH transit system. The difficult part will be to determine on whos shoulders the agencys debt will fall.
