The problems that black America faces today are primarily cultural and racism plays an insignificant role today as it once did. Racism on both sides will always exist..there will always be some whites who hate blacks and some blacks who hate whites..but that is not the controlling factor in the problems that black America face today. Black America can continue to let the past control their destiny and continue to point a finger at white America rather than to confront reality. Whether its the single parent family and the breakdown of the family structure, a lack of an emphasis on education, and the high crime rate within the black community, and other cultural issues like the rap industry which glorifies criminal behavior, it is time that black leaders focus their energy on the real issues that plague the black community. As Mr. Williams so correctly states, If it is assumed that problems that have a devastating impact on black well-being are a result of racial discrimination and a legacy of slavery when they are not, resources spent pursuing a civil rights strategy will yield disappointing results. The truth is that America is not a nation of cowards, it is Black America that is a community of cowards as they refuse to confront reality and by doing so will continue to be victims of circumstances of their own making.
