The propaganda organ of neoliberalism in Australia now recognizes that Abbott is unsalable and is pushing his party to the brink of oblivion. The voices from his own side calling for his head to be delivered on a platter grow louder with each passing poll. All Abbott has to rely on is populist fear mongering and the publics tendency to occasionally lapse into paranoia. Fear and paranoia can be an effective political strategy. However, in the context of rising prices, declining living standards and a decadent, hyper-greedy, thoroughly corrupt, ruling elite that is totally disconnected from the lives of ordinary voters and their families, the use of fear and paranoia is much less effective. Add to that the sheer incompetence and buffoonery of the prime minister and you start to understand the scale of the problem.
