The psalmist David wrote long ago that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, a good understanding have all they that do his commandments…” Ps 11:10 He also said that the law of the Lord makes wise the simple. Ps 19:7 The preacher wrote, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Eccl 12:13-14 If we fear God, we will obey God. We can only fear God when we know of God’s Word. Therefore, the more we know about God, the more we shall fear God, and do exactly what he commands us to do. This is why Paul commanded that we “Study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Tim 2:15 As John wrote, “The scripture can’t be broken (destroyed).” Jn 10:35 If we keep God’s Word, he can’t deny it. 2 Tim 2:13 Needless to say by God’s Word we shall all be judged. Jn 12:48 If Jesus commanded us to believe and be baptized in order to be saved, then how can he say that all those who do such as lost? If Peter commanded us to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins and told us that baptism now saves us, then how can God deny his own Word and say all such who do this are lost? The answer is, He can’t. He can’t because it’s impossible for God to lie. Heb 6:18 This we have as the anchor of our soul, both sure and steadfast. Heb 6:19 The fact of the matter is that all who stand before God at the judgment will fear God. They will fear God because he has the power of life and death. He has the power to give eternal life, and the power to cast both soul and body in hell. Mt 10:28 Paul wrote, “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” Rom 14:11 and then again he wrote, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Phil 2:10-11 The last place we won’t to be is to be standing before God having not obeyed the gospel of Christ and remained faithful to the doctrine of Christ. We have it in writing that all those who know not God and have not obeyed the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power. 2 Thess 1:7-9 This is why the beloved apostle Paul wrote, “Knowing the terror of God, we persuade men.” 2 Cor 5:11 And as the Hebrew writer said, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Heb 10:31 The fact is, that all are appointed to die and that their body shall return back to dust and God shall take back the soul he gave and judge it. Heb 9:27 f; Eccl 12:7 The fact is, that God will judge his people through his Son and by the gospel, and that vengeance belongs to Him. Rom 2:16 f; Heb 10:30 Don’t stand before God unprepared. Prepare to meet the Lord our God today! Amos 4:12 Harden not your heart! Heb 3:8 Now is the accepted time to fear God, behold Now is the day we should obey Him. 2 Cor 6:2 Alfred Shannon Jnr
