“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” -- Ralph Waldo Emerson Interestingly, when a person is useful, honorable, and compassionate they are HAPPY! Reminds me of my butterfly story (short version here) where a person wants to catch a butterfly. No matter how hard he/she tries, the butterfly flits away ... always just out of reach. However, when a person just lays in the grass, up against a tree, or otherwise remains still as fluffy cloud hanging in a summer sky, the butterfly is apt to gently land upon your hand ... or perhaps even on the end of your nose ... providing you with ample time to soak up and savor its beauty and magic.
