The question I get most when I venture out of the house is Bob, what are you doing these days for chrissake? There are no easy answers. Define doing. Doing as activity when Im conscious? Doing I can cite as an alibi while the chalk outline is being traced? Doing when I vanish without a trace? Doin when I varnish without a trace? Doing as in keeping busy... showering, shampooing, brushing my teeth & hair; dressing then undressing? Repeat; this time with the dogs. (They hate those lil sweaters, especially in June). Doing as in NOT yardwork. Doing as working? Ok, Define working. Working as an air talent on the radio? Working as a writer/producer? Playing with the peoples on the phone? Working as a freelance gun for hire? If the definition of working means Im compensated or rewarded for my time, efforts, & skeels, then the answer to your question is Nothing. Absolutely nothing! But, truth is I am doing something. Im up at the crack of door, inspecting my estate, standing guard over my Delhi Ponderosa. Im busy working as a Lookout, watching for squatters & also the men who hydrate too much. But by the time I get to the squatters threat, I realize Im monopolizing the conversation, my inquisition & queries having petered out before chrissake. There are no easy answers.
