The question is NOT whether someone will write an Indian novel - TopicsExpress

The question is NOT whether someone will write an Indian novel Quartet like David Peaces masterpiece, the right question is whether the current Indian Writing in English (IWE) literary institutions will have the balls to support creativity of this scale. The best writing in India happens at the regional level. Readers of fiction in the multitude of regional languages support their literary culture and crave for experimental works in fiction. Unfortunately for Indians writing in English, they will rarely survive the golden rule of buying English Language Fiction: Is this written by someone white? While our readers support literature in translation, more so than western audiences, the same cannot be said for IWE books. I ran into an editor at Harper Collins the other day. Things arent looking good for fiction in general. I fear the uncooperative, insular, self-obsessed IWE gang in India is going to dwell in the dark caves of anonymity for the foreseeable future. P.S. The television adaptation of Pearces books were amazing.
