The question is “what does it mean to walk in the Spirit?” The keyword here is “walk” In the original language from which this word is translated, the Greek word is “peripateō” It means “to tread all around, to live, deport oneself, follow (as a companion or votary): - go, be occupied with, walk (about).” The implication here is that you should be around the person and the things of the Spirit. When you deport yourself to the Holy Spirit and follow Him as a companion, you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. See it better in Amplified translation: Gal 5:16 AMP But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit] ; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). You have to be responsive, be controlled and guided by the Holy Spirit!
