The rabid right-wing hate-o-sphere is fixated on the number six million today. They are trying hard as they might to diminish the importance of that number. Its one million fewer than the goal! they say. Well, the tally is not complete yet, and when it is it will likely exceed the seven million goal. It includes people who lost their insurance because of the Affordable Care Act! Of course it did! Thats what were doing here, reforming bad insurance policies and replacing them with better ones. Why is that a bad thing? But ... that number includes people who would have been signing up for Medicare anyway! Uhm, no, people sign up for Medicare at a completely different Web site and agency. Any who have been added to the Medicare rolls through Healthcare.gov were added because the ACA created funds to expand Medicare to people who previously did not qualify. But ... but ... the government is telling us how many people paid for coverage versus how many got free coverage! So what? The goal is to provide healthcare coverage for people who previously could not afford it. Isnt it? But ... but ... but ... BENGHAZI! Forget about the six million number. All that tells us is who is signing up through Healthcare.gov and the calling centers, and does not include millions of others who have been added to the rolls of the insured because of the ACA.
