The racial gap in life expectancy is shrinking, but while the nationwide numbers are improving, there are still places in the United States where African Americans can expect a considerably shorter life span. The disparities are the subject of a study, “Trends in the Black-White Life Expectancy Gap Among U.S. States, 1990-2009,” published in the August edition of Health Affairs magazine.
