“The really troubling thing for me, personally, is that I’ve habituated to these stories of violence. I feel frustrated and helpless that I can’t do anything. And so when I hear about these stories I shrug them off and I’m sad for a moment; I say a prayer, and then I really don’t — I just don’t pay attention. I stop paying attention because I’ve habituated to the idea that this is something that happens in our world now.” The Rev. James Joiner speaks about the difficulties we face as we navigate the wasteland of violence in our community, particularly the shooting that occurred last week at Reynolds High School, and of the real need to face the darkness and the void together.
