The reason I find the word NIGGER so interesting is because it is the greatest social challenge to white privilege. When you talk about the word NIGGER, you must have the conversation about who can say it, and when is it appropriate to be said. And what typically happens is a duality is created: Black people (who use the word) give other Black people agency to use the word amongst each other, while those very same Black people restrict white folks from even letting the first three letters roll off their tongue without the threat of serious repercussions. What (hilariously) happens next, is that white people begin to complain that Black people say it amongst themselves, say it in songs and even say it to THEM, so why can’t they reciprocate the language they’re hearing? White people say that to make you believe that their complaint is stemmed solely in simple logic, but the truth is, for so long, white privilege has ensured them that they don’t have to play by any other cultures rules, no matter how illogical, that they simply HATE the idea of having to behave like a minority - the same thing Blacks, Asians and Latinos have been doing our ENTIRE lives.
